Dear friends and colleagues!
I am happy to greet you in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, a place of extraordinary vitality, deeply rooted within Russia’s history, and at the same time ever open for progress and initiative. This latter quality proved to be decisive when we suggested St. Petersburg for the International Media Forum.
The concept developed by ROSKINO is based upon the idea of creating an international cross-platform event aimed at promoting a synergy of professionals and the audience. Besides this it is supposed to bring together people from cinema and TV industry, and high rollers on the market of new media startups. The agenda also includes a market, conferences, workshops of leading Russian and foreign specialists, Cinema Lab by Alexander Sokurov (C.L.A.S.), and some 50 premieres of the best films and series of the year.
When we were only starting the preparations for the Forum we didn’t expect that soon the event would acquire an additional meaning. Now we see the St. Petersburg International Media Forum as a politics-free venue open for any discussions within the context of universal values. Culture is a bridge linking countries and people of good will. Nothing can be more symbolic in a city where bridges are opened and closed every night.
Andrei Tarkovsky said: «If we take away all activities that have to do with extraction of profit, only art will remain». All of us working in media industry feel a responsibility not only for the growth of the business, but also for doing our best not to miss the most essential things — human relations, love, and friendship.
I hope the Forum will help our foreign guests to see Russian cinema and TV market in a new light. I have no doubts that if the Forum becomes annual and if it has your support, with time, Saint Petersburg will become a worthy venue in the planet’s industry of entertainment.
Good luck and have fun!
